Going to the zoo, zoo, zoo

Went to the Minnesota Zoo yesterday. Bought a membership so I can go whenever I want. It pays for itself in two visits, so I figured why not? I'm probably older than what most people think of as the target audience, but I enjoy it. It really is a lot of fun.

I take the zoo very seriously. I brought lunch, water, a digital camera (will have to put up some of my better pictures later) and binoculars, which are vital for any area that has birds. Of course, like any trip to the zoo, this ine was filled with both of the two major downsides -- school groups and small children. The two sets of school groups where 7th graders and then a group who looked around 3rd grade. Each was equally annoying in their own way. The older kids were a LOT louder, with the yelling and showing off for each other. The younger kids would shove past, not noticing that you were there. And the small kids, there with their folks? Well, my sense of humor is not small child safe, so I tried my best to stay out of their way, but when those toddlers start to cry, well, they're hard to ignore. Oh, and what does small child safe have to do with it? This happened the last time I went to the zoo, about two years ago.

Cast:
Me (Terrie)
SM (Small Child Around Four)

SM: *pounds on glass*
Me: *Grits teeth and prays he'll stop*
SM: *continues pounding on glass*
Me: Will you please stop hitting the glass? *signifigant look at SM's mother*
SM's Mother: *ignores Me and SM*
ME: Hey, kid, if you keep hitting the glass, in the night, the animals will come and tap on your windows. *ignores horrified look from SM's Mother*
SM: *stops hitting glass and give Me a big-eyed look of fear*

I just want to smack most parents nowadays. POLICE YOUR CHILDREN, KTHXBAI. I understand that it's exhausting and sometimes ya just gotta ignore them cos they never. ever. stop, but honestly, if a stranger starts doing your parenting job for you, you deserve whatever they dish out.

Thank GOD my friends with kids are throwbacks to the days when, you know, parents let their kids know they expected them to BEHAVE.

Word. I don't have kids for a REASON. I don't want to play parent to anyone. So, if you force to feel like I must, I will have no problem warping your children. *evil grin*
