A Hole in the World thoughts
Feb. 26th, 2004 10:08 amOkay, probably not going to be the most coherent thoughts I've ever had, but... Here we go.
Spike and Angel at the beginning. Forget the cavemen/astronaut thing, it's all about the sword in Angel's chest. And Spike's comment about how it's not about poking him with swords, but hitting him with blunt objects. Have I mentioned how much I love Spike snark?
Now, that said, the whole argument about cavemen/astronauts was great. (And I loved the way it spread through the whole office). Mainly because you never know at first what they're arguing about. It's not just about the details, but about their world views. In some ways, all their interactions are about cavemen and astronauts. (Also, loving the "Do the astronauts have weapons?" from Wes).
Knox. I offically dislike Knox. There is something simply too creepy about a guy who would want to date a girl and then give her up as a sacrifice to his god. Talk about kinky... That said, in a perverse fashion, I'm really liking the twist. It's so... Jossian.
Gunn. Bad Gunn. No biscuit. These things always come back to bite you in the ass in teh worst possible way. You should KNOW that by now. Not to mention, I liked thug!Gunn. True, thug!Gunn would be out of place in W&H, while lawyer!Gunn is not, but if Wes kills him (And we all know that pissed off!Wes is a dangerous, dangerous creature), I'd say... Should have seen it coming. Joss brings the dangers of low self-esteem to a whole new level.
Fred. Being an overly akward ned girl myself, I like Fred. She's not quite as much fun as Willow (but who is?), but I still like her. She is a fundementally decent human being who tries to see the best in those around her. This comes out in people's responses to her peril. But, at the same time, she doesn't want to be the dmasel in distress, which is great. It's easy to forget that while Angel did rescue you her, she survived for five years without him. She was crazy, but alive. That girl is tough. And now she's possessed. And kinda blue. Actually, she looks good in blue.
Lorne. It's also easy to forget that Lorne grew up in Pylea -- the offical not-a-nice-place of Angel. That came through loud and clear last night. Also loved his sudden horrified look and spin on the stairs just before Fred collapsed. And his taunting of Eve about her future.
The biggest down side was the interactions between Wes and Fred. They really needed more buildup time with that relationship before they sprung such an angst heavy plot on us. Some amazing acting, but lacking in a foundation.
