Got my grades

To put it bluntly -- they suck. I'm not failing, but I'm not exactly exceling either. I'm pulling a C - C+ average. Gag. The annoying part is that it's not my understanding that's lacking, it's my ability to express my understanding. My writing is severly deficent in the "lawerly" catagory. Not surprising, since I'm not a lawyer, nor will I ever be a lawyer. Stupid legal writing. It's clear that I'm going to need more than the writing class to understand what the HELL legal writing is supposed to look like, so starting tomorrow, I'm going to do about an hour of work outside class each day. Oh, the joy.

I have a friend with law experience (he's actually on LJ -- bevanravenswing.) Would you like me to find out if he'd be willing to assist/offer advice? He's awfully nice, I imagine he would....

The problem is that school rules state that I can't have anyone look at my writing outside of offical tutoring. So, I'm just trying to figure out the general formula.

That's seriously weird. What's the justification?

As best I can guess? It's to make sure it's our own work and that we're puzzling it out for ourselves.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that, I know you're working really hard.

Awwww. I don't know whether to be touched or appalled. (There are better models out there, trust me). However, since you are probably a better writer than I am.... (It took me two years to get undergrad. essay writing figured out). Book to check out to see if this is a bad idea or not "Effectitive Legal Writing" by Gertrude Block. The big problem I'm running into is that I learn by example and you don't really see any decent examples of legal writing in your classes. Any of them.
