Yesterday was my property final. Three one hour essays, closed book, handwritten in PEN. Yes, we were required to use pen. (groan) Am of mixed feelings about this exam. It was my hardest one. So the fact that I didn't totally bomb it is good. Still, I know I got a couple things wrong. Which is frustrating. Of course, the stuff I got wrong was the hardest stuff we covered this semester. And I know didn't get it totally wrong, so....

I hate exams.

That depends. Are you willing to give up your social life? *Closely* read 30+ pages a night of detailed information, making notes as you go? Knowing you will probably have to re-read teh material at least once, and probably more? Struggle with a finicky particular writing format that makes no sense? Have tha majority of your classes prechosen for you? Be put on the spot in an eye blink and usually on the one thing you don't understand? Have a crisis of faith at least once a week? Be prevented from working more than 20 hours a week if you're a fulltime student (the ABA forbids it)?

Actually, it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be. But there is a TON of work. And the first month or two you have to learn a massive amount of jargon. And many profs follow a sink or swim method of learning, so don't expect things to be explaine to you if you're confused. If you really want it and you're willing to work your butt off for it, I say go for it. But know that you'll spend at least as much time with your text books that you do with your wife. Actually, you'll spend more time with the books. You'll have to give up all but one or two of your hobby-oriented activites (I follow livejournal and some online comics and I go to Tai-Chi). You'll have little if any social life (Tai Chi and livejournal IS my social life). You'll be broke(r).

Again, I'm in no way saying you couldn't do it. But if you are, you're better off going in with your eyes wide open to the down sides. I had NO idea what I was getting into, and while it could have been much worse, I would have been happier if I'd known what a struggle those first few months are and how little free time I was going to have.

Hey, I want my friends to be happy. And you'll be much happier knowing what its like. These days, lawyering isn't the big cash game its repuation would lead you to believe. Yes, you make good money, but not GREAT money. So you'd better be doing it because it's what you WANT to do, not what you think you should do. (If I'd gone that route, I'd have a CS degree and be really bored).
