Odds and Ends
Jun. 5th, 2005 12:05 pmFirst off: Watched The Boys of St. Vincent + The Boys of St. Vincent: 15 Years later this morning. Good movie. Very well done. I refuse to ever watch it again, because it's like being kicked in the stomach. For those who've never seen it, it's a pretty damned unflinching look at abuse in a Catholic orphanage and its effects on the boys. Brrrrr. It's the sort of moive that makes you want to go look at pictures of kittens to get it out of your mind.
I'm at work right now. Not actually supposed to be online -- I do have things I should be getting done. But's it so damned dead here. Grand Ole Day is going on right now. It's a one day festival that takes over the street on block from work. So there is no parking to be had, so no students using the library. (Okay, not totally true. There are, maybe, four? At the most). I got here to discover that the church next door was selling parking in our lot for $10 a pop. Now, they've let us use their lot, so I'm sure they have permission, but it would have been nice if they'd set aside two or three spots for those of us who have to work today. The guy manning the entrance suggested I use the handicapped spot. Yeah, right. Thankfully, the faculty lot was empty so I parked there. Normally a no-no, but, please, like any of them are coming in today. Hopefully, stuff will be winding down in fours hours when I go home. I have to stop at the grocery store and the one on the way home is on Grand Ave. Stupid festival.
Folks are coming home tonight. We're having lamb burgers with carmalized onions, grilled asparagus and a shredded carrot salad. Mmmmm. I'm looking forward to it. Food is good.
