Finally saw the new Muppet movie. It was good, though not great. It's better than Muppets in Space, but falls short of the Muppet Movie, Muppets Take Manhattan or The Muppet Christmas Carol. There were a few points where I thought the movie made some missteps.

1) The rap song. Yeah, they made a joke about how out of place it was, but, um, OUT OF PLACE! It totally threw me out of the movie.

2) The over-emphasis of Walter. Most of the stuff with Walter was fine, but I hated the moment where all the Muppets hoisted him on their shoulders right at the end. The movie is called "The Muppets" not "Walter and the Muppets." Ending on an emphasis on the new characters was a huge mistake, IMO.

3) This is minor compared to the previous two, but there were times when the humor was just a bit... off. If the point was that there's still a place for feel-good, Muppet style humor in a world where everything is becoming more and more cynical, there were a couple moments that didn't live up to that theme, and I felt like we got Segal-style humor, instead of Muppet-style humor. Like I said, a minor quibble and a subtle problem.

Still, there WERE some awesome moments. I teared up during Rainbow Connection, because DAMN, that was a great moment.

And, thinking about it, I also feel that "80's Robot" was another misstep. It didn't really add anything, so it was yet another new character who drew time away from what I really wanted to see.
