Today, I picked up Cleo's cremated remains. The cremation service is done by a local funeral home, and they do a really nice job. They provide the ashes in a little urn, and give you a small clay disc with your pet's paw print and name. Oddly, they come in a bag that looks a little too much alife a gift bag for my comfort. Though, heck if I know what I'm going to do with the ashes. I'm not ready to think about it yet.

In a few months, I'll be ready to think about another cat. Or maybe a small dog. I'm not sure yet how Zeus would do with another cat. He wasn't too great with the last one. Not aggressive, just overly excited and really annoying. But this has been a reminder of how important it is to me to have more than one pet. I'm not the kind of person who can get by without something furry and cuddly in my life.

I felt the same way after I lost Gambit -- that I could never risk not having a pet again, so I had to have two (now three, but Iroh was an accident).

You're wise to give yourself time, though. < hugs > I remember how traumatic it was when I adopted Hermione -- if you need to talk anything out, I'll be here. < more hugs >

Thanks. It's definitely been tough. All pets are special, but Cleo was one of those pets who was extra-special. I need to get to the point where I'm looking for a new companion, not a new Cleo. In the mean time, I'm thinking some obedience lessons for Zeus to help him learn some self-control. I swear, one look at a cat and he's like a six year old who just downed a 2 liter bottle of Coke. Completely wound up and bouncing off the walls.
