I was looking at ads for Halloween costumes. Apparently, if you lack a Y chromosome, your only choices are 101 variations of the theme of "slutty tart." Seriously, maybe 1 in 5 gave any sort of decent coverage. It's all short skirts, plunging necklines and bared midriffs. Now, before someone accuses me of "slut shaming" (I do admit my comment about "slutty tart" plays to that), it's not the individual costumes that bother me (except for the ones like "sexy fire fighter" which just... is dumb). Hell, the last time I wore a costume, I was an anime school girl. Hello, short skirt. What bugs me is the lack of choice. If the numbers were reversed, if 1 in 5 costumes were revealing, instead of the other way around, I'd be much happier.

Date: 2010-10-11 07:24 pm (UTC)I decided to go with one of those sets of large fake wings and a rubber mask this year, with normal clothes in between. I think the normalness of the clothes should make the rest of it even creepier.
