My neighborhood is full of dogs. Terriers of various stripes, mutts, a newfie, many labs... So why do I end up living next to the meanest dog I have ever had the displeasure of meeting? The neighbors have a golden that is down right scary. It has attacked my mother and another neighbor's terrier. Thankfully, it is also a coward and if you smack it across the nose, it backs off. It postures up and down their fence, growling and barking. Worse, the owners let it run around th driveay off-leash. The dog is horribly undersocialized and probably does all this because everything and anything frightens it.
This makes me angry. Across the United States, people are moving to ban all sorts of breeds (German shepherds, Dobermanns, Rottweilers, etc) because these dogs are somehow inherently more dangerous. Not only do such laws punish innocent owners and dogs, but it gives people a false sense of security and ignores many dangerous dogs out there. If this golden ever bites me (and all it's going to take is for both of us to end up onthe same side of the fence), I'm taking as many pictures as I can and mailing them to all the politicans who are involved in breed bans as an example of why they don't keep people safe.
