Plans for today

My folks and I are going to go out to lunch with my Grandmother today. She really wanted a chance to see me before I move. That's fair, but I'm not really looking forward to it. My grandmother is one of those relatives that I love, but would prefer to love from afar, where I don't have to interact with her. My grandmother is one of the most boring people I have ever met. She has few, if any, interests and is not what you call a sparkling conversationalist. Most of her conversation involves local gossip about people I've never even heard of before.

Actually, much of the family in the area are on my list of "people I won't particularly miss." They're not bad people, exactly, just people I have nothing in common with. The aunt I'm going to be staying with, by contrast, is probably the person I'm most like in my extended family.

The other big advantage to moving is that I'm going to put several states between me and my dad's driving. My father is one of the worst drivers I have ever seen.
