Thoughts on last night's Angel
First off, Amy Acker. They did a great job of making her Not!Fred. I think it was mainly the eyes that did it. Slightly... reptilian, I think. Over all, she looked really good. Disturbingly sexy with the blue and the leather. Amy also did a good job of acting Not!Fred. I never once looked at... how the heck do you spell that? Allyria? Good enough. Anyway, I never looked at her and said "Hey it's Fred!"
This made the moment when we find out there are bits of Fred trapped in her all the more powerful. When Fred's voice came out of the Not!Fred (which is, incidently much easy to spell than... I think I've settled on Allyria), I was creepified. And now I'm thinking about the apple bits and River in War Stories... (Firefly ep, for those who missed that bit of wonderfulness).
Which ia apporpriate since that leads up to Knox, played by a guy who also guested on one of the three eps of Firefly that you should buy the DVD set to see, because they really kick ass... Okay, ending that sentence. Demon porn. Demon god porn. *snicker* He is offically fucked up. Or, rather, was, since he is now dead. Sewing sacred objects into his chest... Icky. And now I want to know what those things were. Also, loved the line about the... high priest thingy (which I want to keep refering to as the Cuisinart) was taller last time around.
And speaking of Knox being dead due to hole in his chest, is Wes doing the creepy thing again or what? Brrrr. Someone is loosing it. Again. I keep thinking that Angel should notice that Wes is loosing it and stop it (After all, he remembers the whole "The father will kill the son" thing) and then I remember that Angel didn't see all of it. He was at the bottom of the ocean for the whole "Justine in the closet" bit. Have I mentioned the part where Wes is creepy? Because he is.
Speaking of past mistakes and creepy behavior, I'm withholding judgement on the Gunn situation. Gunn screwed up. Big time. But he's hardly the first person in this group to do so. (Hey, Angel, remember the part where your alter-ego almost succeeded in sucking the world into Hell). But, still, after the Lorne/sleep incident, Gunn should have known better than to let people play around with his brain. Never with the good, there.
And Lorne. Where was Lorne this whole time? I would have liked to see him a bit more.
This whole episode was about regrets. The only one who seems to be breaking the cycle of coulda/shoulda/woulda is Spike, who is really starting to look to himself for what he wants out of... unlife. Good for him.
Finally, my thoughts on the ending. That Not!Fred came back only to have be for nothing ties into the whole idea of regrets. I actually felt sorry for her. She's forced to depend on those who hate her for what she took from them, because she has nothing else. And Wes... I think there's more to it than her looking like Fred. His life was gutted (not unlike Fred's body) and he needs something to prop it up. A purpose. Anything. Allyria will have to do, I suppose.
However, if there is anything romanctic between them, I may kill someone.
