People scare me.
Feb. 17th, 2007 11:48 amAs I've mentioned here before, I loved Pan's Labyrinth. I was poking around the movie reviews people had left on Yahoo. I know, I know, what am I? A masochist? It was pretty painful. Most of the reviews were positive. Those that weren't generally fell into three areas.
1) Too violent. I can get that. It is a brutal movie, though I didn't find the violence to be exploitive in the way horror and action movies often are. Still, I recognize some people are going to be put off by any violence. Still, the movie's listed as R. It must have occurred to them that there was a reason for that.
2) Not what they expected from the previews. (Apparently, most people were expecting something along the lines of Narnia). Again, understandable. To an extent. I mean, it's rated *R*. The main character is a little girl. Violence is almost preferable to, say, sexual situations as the reasoning behind the rating.
3) It's in Spanish. With subtitles. One guy even said it would have been a great movie if it was in English. Yeah. I despair for my country sometimes.
