Maybe I'm a big big dog nut, but I find Westminster much more exciting than the Olympics. Okay, yeah, I am a big dog nut -- the fact that one of my school's reference librarians is named Bill Jack amuses me to no end. (For those who are not dog people, BilJac is a high end dog treat).

Anyway, the colored Bull Terrier took Best in Show. In many ways, he totally deserved it. He was flawless. But part of me was slightly disappointed. There are seven groups that are pulled from (six originally), but Terriers account for almost half the BiS wins. Let the other groups have some of the love! I would have like to see the Rottweiler or the Scottish Deer Hound win. Of course, these were partially sentimental reasons. The rottie, because breeder/owner/handlers so rarely win (mainly due to numbers -- they're not very common in general, and much less so at this level, where most people spring for a pro. handler). And the Deer Hound, because hounds take so few BiS. Also, the Deer Hound had such lovely movement. Most sight hounds do. Even at the trot that show dogs move, you could see the barely contained speed. But then the Deer Hound stumbled on a turn -- badly -- and at this level, any smal mistake can cost you.

The Pug, now that dog really screwed himself. When the judge went to put his hands on the dog, teh Pug leaned back. Twice. I can't imagine how the handler felt when the dog took any chance of BiS and tossed it out the window.

And now it's over. And I have to wait another year before I get to watch it again.
