Why I've been quiet
Jan. 2nd, 2005 09:45 amI haven't updated recently. Haven't been reading my friends page recently. This was not my choice. For the past week a a couple days, we were invaded by relatives. Easily offended relatives, who would through a hissy fit over some of the stuff on my friends page, such as the childfree community. Nor is it good to be writing about how annoying your relatives are if there's a good chance they'll look over your shoulder to see what you're doing. (These are not people who are inclined to give me privacy).
My grandma came for Christmas. This required a lot of rearranging, since she can't handle stairs any more. We brought my brother's old bed down to teh family room, and the dog's crate was moved up to my brother's old room. (My brother is now living with my aunt in SC). The dog was most unhappy about this. It turns out he is quite the creature of habit. Whined off and on every night the whole time he was up there.
Christmas was okay. My dad had to work Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Christmas Eve we did simple stuff, cheese, bread, etc. Gifts were had. I got some great stuff, such as pro-quality cooking knives and the special edition DVD of The Princess Bride -- best movie ever. My dad liked the plush germs I got him.
My grandma stayed on after Christmas. This was very aggrivating. She is kinda depressed and, well, when my dad was in med school they told him one way to recognize depression is that you don't want to be in the same room as the depressed person -- my grandma is like this. She has hobbies, but not interests. Nothing gets her excited or fired up. Ultimate in ackward small talk that always falls flat.
Wendsday, my aunt and uncle showed up. I do not like these people. My aunt, while she doesn't dislike me (too much effort to waste on me) definately doesn't like me. She has a very traditional view of a woman's role -- mother, wife, etc. I do not fit this at ALL. My uncle, due to a work accident years ago, is somewhat braindamaged. He has some trouble with boundires and tries to enagage me in conversation when it is clearly not appropriate, such as when I'm walking out the door.He also let our dog out and then, rather than calling me, tried to chase Max down. Max is faster than people. My Grandma finally came and got me. Thirty seconds later, I had the dog back.
My aunt and uncle got my mom to agree that they could get together with their son and his family at our house -- we're a central location between the two. Five fricking kids all day saturday. Then, more family, since my mom felt, hey we've got this many, why not more. So Sat. afternoon, there were nine kids running around teh hous eand just as many adults. So many people I could barely breathe. Spent much of teh day up in my room, hiding.
Now, after a week+, I can finally relax and have some vacation. A whole week of vacation. Well, actually, since I have a couple days job to do at my dad's office (grant paper work, yeah!), less than a week. This SUCKS. I really needed this break, too. Oh, well, at least they're all gone. FINALLY.
