Saturday morning, Zeus broke a glass and promptly stepped on it. Of course, I didn't realize this at first, focused on cleaning up the glass. The cut was no gusher, but rather oozed consistently. So there's blood on the carpet where ever he stopped to stand. As luck would have it, I had a vet appointment for Diego that morning, so we just bumped the cat in favor of the dog. Poor guy has to wear the cone of shame.

I've been struggling with my health the last couple weeks. The stress from the tenure process got to be too much. I knew I was having some issues. My appetite was down, and I was often asleep by 8:30 or 9 at night, I was so worn out. But at the end of February, it hit a tipping point. Nausea, tremors, headaches, shortness of breath. I was a mess. Ended up taking a week and a half of medical leave. Came back to work last week, but I'm still not 100%.

The end result is that I am off tenure track, with a limited time contract. I'm looking for a new job, one that isn't tenure track. Jobs in my field locally are extremely limited , so I may be moving. Still working through everything mentally. I think this is for the best, but that doesn't make it easy to accept.

This is the first I've heard about tenure track...I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work out, even if you do think it's for the best.

If you end up interviewing in Boston, let us know. You're welcome to stay with us while visiting.

Tenure wasn't something I really talked about. It was simply one aspect of the job.

Boston definitely makes the list of "Places I would be happy to go." The other two lists are "Places that won't make me run away screaming" and "Places that WILL make me run away screaming."

I'm so sorry you went through this (on both counts - poor Zeus, and the tenure process stress overload.)

I send a great deal of caring. You are absolutely wonderful and I believe you will succeed.

Thank you! Zeus is doing okay, though he HATES the cone. One week to go until the staples come out. Poor guy. I'm doing all right as well, and starting to think about what I want to look for in a job.
