So my mom suggested that if I wanted to put my new crochet skills to use, she could use a black shawl. I set to work, since I happened to have some black yarn anyway. Only, still being fairly new at this, I didn't think to account for the looseness of the stitches and the overall weight of the work. It's gone from about 5'3" in length to around 6'. This is not a huge disaster -- many commercial shawls are that long, if not a bit longer. But it does explain why each row seems to take longer the more I work on the darn thing. I am not actually trapped in a time warp.
